Run Wild’s mission to inspire, engage, and activate the national trail running community to protect our public lands.
As trail runners, we rely on our nation’s public lands to do what we love. These wild places give us joy and inspiration, challenge us, and provide a satisfying sense of freedom. Our shared lands provide substantial benefits for both natural and human communities, from protecting wildlife habitat and clean water to sustaining outdoor recreation opportunities and associated industries. It only seems right to protect these lands for generations to come, so that all may have access to the wonders of the outdoors in perpetuity.
Unfortunately, in several Western states these lands are now under threat. In 2015 the U.S. Senate passed legislation to enable the sale or transfer of public lands to state or local governments. Now several states have introduced bills to their legislatures that could turn these public lands over to the states to sell. This trend threatens the fundamental American tenet that public lands belong to everyone.
